FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS NEEDLE FELTING?

Needle felting is the art of poking wool fibers with a special barbed needle to create a form or, as in what I do, a portrait. The needle entangles and grabs the fibers of the wool when stabbed. As this is repeated the fibers cling together tighter and tighter. There are different types of needle felting. The type I create is two dimensional (2D) felting. 2D felting is when the wool is stabbed onto a background such as a wool felt sheet, linen or cotton. This form of felting produces a 2D “painting” effect that can be framed as an art piece.

HOW DO I CARE FOR MY NEEDLE FELTED PIECE?

Portrait Placement ~ Most importantly, do not display your piece in direct sunlight. This will most certainly fade the wool colors.

Handling ~ It is tempting to touch your fiber art, but please do not. The felted details are very delicate and can be moved or displaced. Also, you will transfer oils from your skin, providing dirt and dust to stick.

Pets ~ Please keep away from pets as some are attracted to wool and can think it is a toy. (This has happened to my own pieces with both a dog and cat!! ~ NOT PRETTY!!)

Cleaning ~ If your piece gets dusty, lightly blow away the dust or turn the piece over and tap the frame carefully. You can also use compressed air but keep at least 12 inches away so as not to move the fibers.

CAN I HAVE MORE THAN ONE PET FELTED IN ONE PIECE?

Sure! I would need to discuss the layout and cost with you first but it is definitely an option.

CAN ANY ANIMAL BE FELTED AS A PORTRAIT?

Yes, as long as I have a detailed picture!

CAN I GET A RUSH ON AN ORDER?

Please keep in mind that portraits take many hours to complete but don’t hesitate to contact me before your order if this is a time sensitive gift. I will try my best to accommodate you.
